Welcome To PPAS Summer Camp 2012
All our drama summer camp sessions are held at
held at Skyline
Community Church in Oakland. We know putting on a play can be a lot of work but for our summer program we get to have more time to “play around”. Tucked away in the hills and surrounded by trees, Skyline Community Church (SCC) has one of the most beautiful views in Oakland! They also have a beautiful courtyard where we enjoy lunch, play games and have snack time. Summer camp is a great opportunity for continuing students to excel in their drama skills, and for new students to learn about the joys of improv and putting on a play.

What do PPAS students do at Summer Camp?
We work in small groups allowing students to direct and be a part of the creative experience. Our program involves the students making creative decisions about scenes, skits, parts of the play or improv show. We find that the more students have a say in things-the more they learn and enjoy the whole process. We focus on teamwork and leadership skills. Everyone is allowed a turn at directing and everyone must follow a director.
In the Morning:
- We decide our schedule together and assign groups and directors (leaders) giving a certain amount of time to work on the play or an improv scene. Then the groups and directors switch.
- We work on Improvisation/Character Studies- playing with our parts and using our imagination to create more meaningful characters and situations.
- Students perform for each other and give positive feedback. PPAS instructors give lessons to help students with their progress using examples and exercises.
- We provide a supportive environment for individual growth and we encourage students to experiment and take creative risks. Students get to "play around" and learn from each other what works best for themselves.
- We have a morning snack break outside in the Labrinth, afternonon break and a lunchtime in the courtyard and after lunch all students play games in the lawn area.
In the Afternoon:
- We play games.
- We focus on parts of the play or improv show we need to explore further.
- We work on any costume or props we need to create in the afternoons as well.
